About the Company

Loop Industries is a technology company that owns patented and proprietary technology that depolymerizes no and low-value waste PET plastic and polyester fiber, including plastic bottles, packaging, and textiles such as carpets and clothing, into its base building block monomers, DMT and MEG. The monomers are separated, purified and polymerized to create virgin-quality Loop™ branded PET resin suitable for use in food-grade packaging and polyester fiber. The company is currently in the pre-commercialization stage with limited revenues. Its current manufacturing facility is a small-scale plant in Terrebonne, Québec, with limited production capacity used principally for research and development, training, and customer marketing purposes.

Revenue Generation

Loop Industries generates revenue through a combination of direct investments with strategic partners to own and operate commercial facilities and the licensing of its technology. Revenue streams include: (i) licensing fees, including upfront royalty payments from technology licensing agreements; (ii) engineering fees for services provided to joint venture partners; and (iii) sales of Loop™ PET resin produced at its Terrebonne Facility. The company plans to generate future revenue from profits from the operation of commercial facilities and royalties paid for licensing its technology. The company’s target customers are apparel companies and consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies seeking to integrate Loop™ PET resin and polyester fiber into their products and packaging.

Investment Thesis
Executive SummarySituation: Loop Industries is a pre-commercialization technology company with a $192 million accumulated deficit and an active SEC investigation into its testing results. Debate: The market is pricing in a successful pivot to an asset-light licensing model, while the balance sheet shows negative tangible equity of -$1.30 per share and a reliance on $130 million in unclosed debt financing. Conclusion: The current valuation of $1.15 is unsustainable given the $0.00 valuation floor and the high probability of failure to secure the capital required for the India facility.
